Within New Zealand varieties of both, you’ll find a range of aromas and flavours including apple, rose petals, citrus and stone fruit flavours like peach, lemon and lime. An off dry wine contains between 15-30 g/L. Like Pinot Gris, Riesling can be quite aromatic and fruity. You’ll both wines produced at various sweetness levels, that goes from dry to sweet. But even though they technically refer to the same grape (or the wines made from that grape), the different terms can be reflective of the region in which the grape is grown, or of the style of wine typically associated with those regions (just like Syrah is also known as Shiraz in some parts of the world).
